Palnure Burn
Salmon Fishing
In many ways it is its own diverse and separate system and is set in idyllic countryside amidst the Galloway hills. The Palnure is located 2 miles from Conifers, crossed by the A75. The first 11/4 miles downstream from Craignine Bridge is non tidal. The lower mile is tidal and is the most productive on the whole water. It's tidal movements create the effect of regular spates and good catches can be made especially on the Lady Pool which can hold surprising numbers of Salmon and Seatrout even in drought conditions. Fly fishing is possible in open areas, but because of the wooded nature of the burn the most consistent success is had by the skillful use of the worm. It is possible to stalk your fish with great caution. When successful the ensuing fight is something to be experienced, especially as these Palnure fish can be amongst the largest of the whole of the Cree system. Certainly a beautiful, different and fun place to catch migratory fish. This fishery can make an attractive alternative to your beat rota on the main rivers.
